Green Bay Blues

The Green Bay Packers are in a rut after their bye weeks just a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, as a Packer fan, this has been miserable to watch. Losing to the Broncos, Panthers, and the Lions... Yes, the Lions. Last week the Packers lost the the Lions in a pretty dramatic fashion. I actually had the luxury to attend this game.

Image result for packers vs lions

From the stands this is how the game went. Throughout the game the Packer fan base seemed pretty confident that we would come back. Again, it was the 1-7 Lions. As the time began to wind down, fans started to get more and more nervous about losing. This is when the Packers almost came back. Scoring and needing to convert on the 2-point conversion, fans were positive that the Packers were going to tie it up and win in overtime.

This didn't happen either. Then, there was an onside kick attempt and the Packers got the ball. After driving down into field goal range, fans were positive we would kick the game winning field goal and walk out proud. As the ball was snapped and Crosby, the Packer's kicker, kicked the ball the crowd went silent. The crowd stayed silent as the kick was missed and the remaining time ran off the clock.

Hopefully the Packers can get it together as they just fell behind the Vikings in the division standings

Week 10 NFL Fantasy

This week, the NFL has some great match ups, like the Super Bowl XLVI rematch between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.  Another match up that will interesting to watch is the Bills taking on the New York Jets, as the former Jets coach Rex Ryan gets a chance to take on his former team tonight for Thursday Night Football.

For most fantasy teams out there, there are only 4 games left before the playoffs start in your respected groups.  Like many teams, you and I are trying to grind out these next 4 games to be able to secure that playoff spot.  In my case, I am 5-4 right now, tied for 4th place, and hoping that my players do well this week vs their opponents to gain that rightful place in the playoffs.

To gain an advantage over your opponents check out this LINK to help gain a better understanding of who to choose to play in your lineup.  Something else that helps me gain a better perspective of who to pick is on that same website.  It is a tool that helps you who to start over another player.  That link is found HERE.

After every week I like to check out some videos to show me who has been hurt or sidelined and who will be that rising star to take their place.  Here are some waiver wire pickups that help out your team.  Check it out below.  Enjoy, and good luck.

NBA Fantasy

Usually when Football is still on, every other sport gets put behind football in terms of fantasy.  We did a draft of the NBA a couple days before the NBA season started.  All of us are still hyped up over football and fantasy that the basketball fantasy league doesn't get talked about very much.

So far this season for the NBA is stacking up to be a good one.  Derrick Rose is back and we have seen glimpses of the MVP Rose, and also the Golden State Warriors are atop of the Western conference with the only undefeated record so far this season.  And of course Stephen Curry is playing out of his mind with a staggering 33.9 points per game in his first 7 games.

Check out this LINK for the top projected fantasy players.

Top points per game players so far this season.
1. Stephen Curry - 33.9
2. Kevin Durant - 29.8
3. James Harden - 29.7
4. Blake Griffin - 29.3
5. Damien Lillard - 27.3

Top rebounds per game players so far this season.
1. Andre Drummond - 19
2. DeAndre Jordan - 13.5
3. Rudy Gobert - 12.7
4. Kevin Love - 11.5
5. Tyson Chandler - 11.3

Top assists per game players so far this season.
1. Russel Westbrook - 10.5
2. Ricky Rubio - 9.2
3. John Wall - 8.8
4. Chris Paul - 8.2
5. T.J. McConnell - 7.5

Cheap Shot

While watching any sport, no fan likes to see any of their players get injured. Especially when it is your star quarterback in a close game! This is exactly what happened to the Vikings in their game against the Rams in their game today. To make matters worse, the play happened to be a cheap shot.

Image result for rams vs vikings

Teddy Bridgewater, the quarterback for the Vikings, was running for the first down marker when he slid to avoid the collision. LaMarcus Joyner, the Ram's cornerback who hit Bridgewater, had a different result in mind. As Bridgewater slid he received a devastating hit from the Ram's cornerback. Not only was this a major impact on Bridgewater, but it was enough to knock him completely unconscious.

It is fair to say that this was a cheap shot. Below you can see the hit on Bridgewater and his teammate's reaction to the hit.

Battle of the Unbeaten

This week's NFL Night Game was between two unbeaten Teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos. This match up between the two undefeated teams was one that was talked about all week. Many viewers have been excited to see who was going to come out as the undefeated team and who would lose their first game of the season.

The Broncos have been struggling offensively so far this year but managed to turn that around in this weeks game. With many defensive players for the Packers, the defense was getting beat left and right all throughout the game. Not only did the Broncos dominate with their offense, but their defense did an excellent job shutting down the Packer's offense as well.

Being a Packers fan this was a rough game to watch, but the Broncos dominated every part of this game. Manning was able to turn around his season and the Broncos will be a hard team to beat as we continue into the season.

What Undefeated team do you think has the best chance to remain undefeated this season?

Week 8 NFL Injuries

Week 8 of the NFL again, has some notable injuries to some of the premier players.  One injury, which might be the biggest is Le'veon Bell.  During the game, Le'veon rushed the ball and was then tackled and got his leg tucked under the tackler and ended up hurting his knee.  In the video below it a pretty gruesome image and didn't look good for Bell and the Steelers.

Some other notable injuries include Steve Smith Sr. of the Baltimore Ravens when Smith was tackled and instantly grabbed the back of his foot and called for trainers.  Smith is now out for the season with a torn Achilles, so look for Kamar Aiken to receive more targets.  Another league leading receiver Keenan Allen of the San Diego Chargers didn't return to the game with muscle spasms.

Chicago Bears running back, Matt Forte, exited early form the game with a knee injury.  Forte has been a premier impact rushed for the Bears, and will be heavily missed if the injury is serious.  New Orleans Saints running back, Khiry Robinson suffered a scary looking leg injury and the training staff had to use an air cast instantly.  New York Jets quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick left the game with a hand injury while Geno Smith came in to fill his position.

Take note of these injuries if you have a Fantasy Football team to  adjust your lineup for next week and possible pick-ups to replace these players.

A Look at Lamar Odom's Story

In the sports news lately, many people have been hearing the name Lamar Odom. For those who do not know who this individual is, he is one of the NBA's great players. Odom played with Kobe Bryant, another NBA super-star, when he was on the Lakers. He was found in a brothel  in Nevada (which is legal in this state under strict health codes) unconscious and in need of immediate medical attention.

Lamar Odom luckily was able to receive this medical attention and was brought to the nearest hospital to be treated. Originally the medical team that arrived to the scene wanted to bring him to the hospital in a helicopter. The ex-NBA player standing at 6' 10" and approximately 230 pounds was simply too big to be flown to the hospital. Reports show that Odom had to be brought to the ambulance by three people according to an article on ESPN.

Although this seems like a downfall, Odom has had what some describe as a rough life. With having to deal with deaths, tragedies, and other unfortunate life events Odom has had a pretty rough-go. Bleacher Report has an exclusive article that does an excellent job following up this recent indecent.

We hope to see Lamar Odom make a full-recovery after this unfortunate event. Below is a video that shows some of Odom's success during his career in the NBA:

Go Cubs Go!

As I watch postseason baseball as a Cubs fan this year, I cannot help but feel anticipation and excitement for a potential Cubs World Series victory. It has been over 100 years (1908) since the Cubs last won, and I know that me and other Cubs fans would be both relieved and ecstatic at the same time. A long overdue championship would be exactly what Cubs fans and the city of Chicago needed.

However, with all the attention on the Cubs success this year, it is easy to forget that the Cubs have an inner-city rival in the White Sox. Even easier to forget is that the White Sox won the World Series themselves in 2005. Before this, the last baseball championship Chicago had seen was the 1917 White Sox. For 88 years Chicago sports fans had been without a baseball championship.

While I am hoping for a Cubs championship this year to end the team's personal drought, it is easy to overlook the strife baseball fans in Chicago faced for more than eight decades. Certainly, I am no White Sox fan, but I remember hoping they would pull it out back in 2005 as I am sure some White Sox fans are hoping of the Cubs this year. The cross town rivalry can be heated, but after so many years of mutual struggle, sometimes it is best to put differences aside and enjoy relevant Chicago baseball.

NLCS - Cubs vs. Mets

Tonight starts the showdown of the ALCS, Royals vs. Blue Jays match up, and tomorrow the NLCS match up between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.  What a showdown both of these games will be, yet the one I am interested in, is the Cubs vs. the Mets.  Who would have thought at this point we would be saying the Mets would be facing the Chicago Cubs. A crazy stat is that this is the first NLCS since 2007 without the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers or San Francisco Giants.

I want to first look at the match up between these two teams in the regular season.  The Cubs have recorded a perfect 7-0 record vs the Mets in the regular season.  The playoffs are a different breed though.  Both teams have been on a roll and it all starts Saturday the 17th at 7:07 p.m.

The first game between these two teams will consist of a pitching duo between Jon Lester of the Cubs and Matt Harvey of the Mets.

What a better of a match up could we have hoped for than these two teams. It'll be a showdown and we all can't wait to see what happens in this 7 game series to advance to the World Series.  Also, check out these stats from these two teams this season.  WOW.

Here are the dates and times of the series and also the projected lineups for Game 1

Still Perfect

After another week of football there are still 5 teams that still remain perfect! These teams include the Packers, Bengals, Broncos, Patriots, and lastly the falcons. All of these teams have had a very solid start to their season. In my opinion. the most exciting team to see on the Green Bay Packers! The defense has been playing extremely well for this team and continues to keep the Packer's offensive in a good position.

The team that watches these perfect teams closer than anyone is the only team to ever go undefeated in the current NFL system, the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins in 1972 went the entire season, including winning the Super Bowl, without losing a single game. The only other team to come this close was the Patriots when they went 16-0 in the season but then lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl.

This Dolphins team still gets together every time the last undefeated team loses to celebrate their perfection. Here is a link to a video talking about the team and some of their accomplishments.

NL Wild Card Game: Cubs vs Pirates

Who would have thought that the best 3 teams in baseball would all be in the same National League Central division?  The National League Wild Card Game will be played by the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.  As for the playoffs, this is the Cubs first playoff appearance since 2008 and this is the third consecutive playoff appearance for the Pirates.

This year, the Cubs have drastically changed their season from last year.  Last years record was a dismal 73-89, while this season boasted a 97-65 record.  That is a 24 game turnaround that led them to the 3rd best record in the MLB.  With the newly gained talent and veterans such as, Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Jon Lester, Jorge Soler, Starlin Castro and more.

Cubs Lineup                                                         Pirates Lineup
Dexter Fowler, CF                                               Gregory Polanco, RF
Schwarber, RF                                                     Josh Harrison, 3B
Bryant, LF                                                           Andrew McCutchen, CF
Rizzo, 1B                                                             Starling Marte, LF
La Stella, 3B                                                        Francisco Cervelli, C
Castro, 2B                                                            Neil Walker, 2B
Miguel Montero, C                                              Jordy Mercer, SS
Russell, SS                                                           Sean Rodriguez, 1B
Arrieta, P                                                             Gerrit Cole, P

The biggest story of this game will be the pitching, which could possibly be the best pitching matchup of the year.  This game will be exciting and exhilarating and who knows, Back to the Future could be right? Could the Cubs go all the way and shock the world? Let's hope so!

America's Game of the Week

America's Game of the Week was a game between the Green Bay Packer's and the San Francisco 49ers. Green Bay is a team that typically has trouble with the 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Although this is true, the Packers were able to hold Kaepernick to 13-of-25 passing with 160 yards. He was also held to 57 yards on 10 carries which is where the Packers usually have trouble with the elusive quarterback.

As a Packer's fan it is fun to see the team playing so well! After the fourth week of football the Packers are one of the few teams that remains a perfect 4-0. The other teams that are currently perfect are the Panthers, Falcons, Broncos, Bengals, and lastly the Patriots who are 3-0. This strong Packers team sits among a short list of teams that are striving to keep their records perfect week after week.

Below is a link to a video of some of the excitement that happened this week in America's Game of the Week. Clay Matthews, Green Bay's defensive star, was micced up for the game. This video captures some words exchanged during the game.

NFL #Pink

It's October so do you know what that means?  While watching NFL this month you'll be seeing players wear pink and everything else you see on the field, including the footballs will be covered in pink to help raise awareness for breast cancer.  Yet, why doesn't this useful awareness technique offer more to the American Cancer Society (ACS) in the end?  I have been seeing this going around and decided to dig a little deeper and found an article that gives us a little insight into what is actually going on.  I found this article that was interesting in what the NFL is doing with the money and what it is used for.  While searching around for some data I found another article that lists some of the tangible and intangible benefits that it offers, as well as how the awareness started in the NFL.

Although I do agree with this post, I do think that it does raise quite a bit of awareness and I'd like to see the NFL put that money someplace more useful rather than for screenings.

Here is a small video on the matter as well:

The Impact of the NFL: More Than a Game

We all know that NFL football can become a big part of our lives. Some people's lives can be impacted in a tremendous way from simply meeting their favorite player or checking out their team's locker room. There are plenty of great stories where children who are unfortunately diagnosed with crippling diseases get their chance to meet their favorite team.

The story of Braylon Beam is a special one. Braylon, a six-year-old, was diagnosed with a Brain tumor in February according to an ESPN article covering the story. Fortunately Braylon announced Sunday at the Panther's game (his team) that the tumor is dying! Hearing the story of such a young kid fighting against such a tough situation can be truly humbling.

It is great to hear that Braylon is starting to beat the brain tumor and hopefully the tumor continues to shrink! He was able to coach the team at a Fan fest event in August. The team was thrilled when they heard about Braylon's current state.

Braylon's message to the team before the game? Six-year-old Braylon is wise beyond his years by telling the team"We've got to keep positive." We can all learn a thing or two from Braylon through his positive attitude. (Braylon pictured below during Sunday's pregame)

Another Legendary Sunday

Today was another wild day in the National Football League. With many exciting plays, nail-biting endings, and some injuries to big players it made for a legendary weekend of football! One of the big headlines from Sunday’s games was the fact that Eddie Lacey, Tony Romo, and Jay Cutler were all taken off the field due to injuries.

All of which are pretty major injuries (other than Lacey) so the Cowboys and Bears might be hurting coming into the next few weeks. Jay Cutler went down on a play where he threw an interception and then made an attempt to tackle the defensive player. Tony Romo was taken out of the game taking a pretty big hit that resulted in a broken bone.
Here is a link to the devastating play that might put a hold on the Cowboy's success this season.

Sunday Night Football

The Green Bay Packers are playing the Seattle Seahawks for the Sunday Night Football game tonight in a rematch from the last time the two teams met.  Last season, these two teams played against each other for the NFC Championship for a chance to get to the Super Bowl in a overtime thriller.  The Packers will be coming for vengeance to get to the record of 2-0 in this season.  With Kam Chancellor still holding out on his contract, the Packers have a better chance of winning this game since he is one of the main defensive stars on that team beside Richard Sherman.  Check out this LINK to see how the Packers can solve the #1 defense of the Seattle Seahawks.

Annnndd We're Back!

The NFL season has started this week! Many football fans across the nation celebrate their team being back on the field with great food, drinks, and their lucky jersey! There were many great games that took place in the NFL, but the most interesting game (in my opinion) started right at 12 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Today the Green Bay Packers took on the Chicago Bears in one of the longest ongoing rivalries in the game today. It was a back-and-forth game up until the fourth quarter where the Packers seemed to pull away! As a Packer fan, it was great to see my team pull this one off! I felt that the Bears played a great game and I was actually surprised at how well the team played. Luckily the Green and Gold was able to hold on for the win for their first 1-0 start since 2011 against the New Orleans Saints.

Here is a video capturing some of today's excitement:

3rd day of NBA Free Agency

-->
Today is the start of the third day of free agency and there are still some big name players out there looking for a deal.  We still have LaMarcus Aldridge looking for a team to showcase his skills.  He is currently 29 years old so he is looking for a team that is capable of getting to the NBA Finals.

Yesterday on Thursday there were some bug names that landed on different teams for the next season.  Some of those names are Monta Ellis who played with the Dallas Mavericks.  Ellis had a fantastic season yet declined more money from the Mavericks to sign with his new team, the Pacers for $44 million for 4 years.  Greg Monroe who played for the Pistons last season is now with the Milwaukee Bucks for a 3-year, $50 million contract.

On Wednesday, more big time players were signed on to their teams.  First off, Jimmy Butler who gave Chicago a scare, agreed to a five-year, more than $90 million contract.  This sign on I was happy about because Butler was a star last season for Chicago and they really needed him back to be a contender for the Finals.  Now lets talk about Anthony Davis.  Davis for the Pelicans is a very good young player that will dominate this league for many years to come.  He and the Pelicans agreed to a 5-year, $145 million contract.  This is $29 million a year.  That is absurd and I’m not sure if that much money is worth it.  With that kind of money it weakens the cap space for the Pelicans and doesn’t allow for other big time players to come on and help out Davis.  All in all though, good for Davis and the Pelicans have an All-Star that will get better and better for years to come.

Here are some other free agent pick-ups for teams.

Kawhi Leonard: 5-year max extension with Spurs

Kevin Love: 5-year, $110 million with Cavs

Draymond Green: 5-year, $85 million with Warriors

Goran Dragic: 5-year, $90 million with Heat

Danny Green: 4-year, $45 million with Spurs

Tyson Chandler: 4-year, $52 million with Suns

Don’t forget to check out this link for some great products at solid prices.

Update on NBA Free Agency

Since the NBA draft happened, there have been some moves in the free agency that have surprised some of us, and some that has not.  The first big player, LaMarcus Aldridge from the Portland Trail Blazers will be meeting with 2 teams this Tuesday.  The Lakers and the Rockets will be the first 2 teams to meet with Aldridge to discuss possible signing opportunities.  Wednesday, Aldridge will be meeting with more teams including the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors, and also the New York Knicks.  From this activity it seems that Aldridge will be highly unlikely to stay with the Trail Blazers.

The most dominate basketball player in the world, LeBron James, will be a free agent July 1st, in which he was a part of the Cleveland Cavaliers finals run this season.  My opinion on this is that he will be returning to the Cavs before the start of the season, yet he will be negotiating contract plans and also try to help lure in other teammates.  It has been reported the James will not be meeting with other teams, which constitutes the fact that he will be returning with the Cavs.

The last player is the NBA’s most improved player, Jimmy Butler, for the Chicago Bulls might not be returning to the Bulls this offseason.  Butler is a free agent right now and looking at other teams to give him a huge contract deal.  Now the Chicago Bulls have the right to match any offer that other teams offer, yet it is solely up to Jimmy on where he wants to play next season.  There have even been rumors that Butler wanted to sign a short deal with the Lakers for a year or two.  Let’s hope he stays in Chicago where they need him, as he’ll provide a solid backcourt option with former MVP Derrick Rose.

Link Post "2015 NBA Draft"

To highlight tomorrow’s big night of the NBA Draft, I’m going to show some other work of people and see what their thoughts are on tomorrow’s big day.  Tomorrow marks the beginning of talks of what the upcoming season could be like for the NBA teams.

Above is a link to “Ranking draft prospects according to wisdom of the crowd,” by Justin Rao and David Rothschild.

I enjoy the way they did this type of draft choice, by letting the crowd or voters’ pick who would win certain match ups.  First off the match up head-to-head between Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor, they took Towns, in which I definitely agree on.  From then on, they did other match ups to see who would fare against who.

As I find this different, I also find this kind of silly and disregarding the task of finding the draft picks for certain teams.  As this might point out who can beat who in a head-to-head match up, this doesn’t depict what a team needs out of a certain player.

Here is another look at some NBA Draft news and what teams are looking for in the draft process.  The one paragraph that stood out to me was the Lakers trying to trade for #2 pick for DeMarcus Cousins from the Sacramento Kings.  I’m not sure if I quite agree with this choice.  On one side I see that Cousins is still only 24 and has a ton of basketball left in him.  He also is one of the most dominant big men in the game.  On the other side, the Lakers have the #2 pick in the draft and a chance to obtain Jahlil Okafor or even Karl-Anthony Towns.  Both of these big men will be All-Stars in the coming years and will play a big part for the Lakers in years to come.

With that all said, I’m ready to see what happens tomorrow for the Draft and to see what picks come from which team.
